Speak for Liberty. Compete Nationally

Students ages 12–18 compete in a national speech challenge inspired by Frederick Douglass — advancing from a digital entry to the national stage. This contest invites young leaders to craft one original speech each competition year and make their voice count.

The Voices of Liberty National Oratory & Rhetoric Contest equips students to think critically, speak boldly, and defend liberty with moral conviction.

Open to students enrolled in public, private, charter, parochial, military, trade, and homeschool programs nationwide.

Grounded in faith, constitutional freedom, and the enduring ideas of Frederick Douglass, Voices of Liberty challenges students to articulate timeless truths in a moment that urgently needs them.

Speech Themes: Students may draw from Frederick Douglass, apply his ideas to modern challenges, or address themes of constitutional liberty, civic responsibility, and biblical justice.

Topics such as human dignity, equal protection, moral courage, limited government, and the responsibilities of freedom are especially encouraged.
Students may also explore Douglass’s historic question: “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”

For Teachers and Youth Leaders: Voices of Liberty works especially well for after-school speech clubs, civics enrichment, debate programs, and homeschool groups. Many educators can run Voices of Liberty in an after-school speech club, helping students prepare their speeches together while building confidence and civic understanding.
Please review the Rules + Regulations below for full contest guidelines and submission requirements.

Voices of Liberty is more than a speech competition. It is a call to raise up a generation prepared to defend truth, honor faith, and lead with courage.
